At ʻŌpelu Ocean Adventures, we offer unique, private, and eco-friendly experiences that blend adventure with comfort. Whether it’s kayak fishing or snorkeling, we ensure personalized service by only hosting one party per tour (with a maximum of 4 participants). Our Hobie pedal-drive kayaks are safer, faster, and more stable than traditional kayaks, making for a smoother experience. You also have full control over your adventure—whether it’s adjusting your pace or switching up activities, we can customize the experience to your liking. Read more here.
We start early to make the most of the day’s best ocean and weather conditions. Early mornings offer calm seas, cooler temperatures, and the best chances of spotting wildlife and catching game fish. As the day progresses, winds pick up, marine life activity decreases, and the heat can make ocean experiences uncomfortable. Starting early maximizes your enjoyment on the water and provides an experience up to our standards.
After an introduction to your equipment and a safety briefing, we will launch the kayaks from a boat ramp at a location the guide will select based on the fishing and ocean conditions. The guide and your party will be distributed across a mix of tandem and single kayaks. We will fish for the allotted amount of time, enjoying the peace of the ocean and action on the rod. Once its time to head in, we will land on the same boat ramp used to launch, debrief, and discuss options for any caught fish.
A snorkeling excursion from a kayak offers a few advantages over a trip from a boat or the shoreline. The kayaks allow us to quietly and peacefully reach areas that would be difficult to access on foot from the shoreline. In our experience, harder to access and less traveled areas have much better opportunities for viewing marine life. Furthermore, our tours are designed for a small group of up to 4 participants, providing a more personalized and peaceful experience than you may find on a boat trip with more guests. We trade the hum of an engine and smell of exhaust fumes for the sounds of the sea and fresh ocean air. You’ll have the chance to see vibrant marine life like spinner dolphins, eagle rays, and a huge variety of reef fish. It’s an eco-friendly, intimate way to explore the ocean at your own pace.
Our Bottom Fishing and Kayak Snorkel offerings are beginner friendly, but there are certain requirements to ensure safety and enjoyment. You must be a confident ocean swimmer, in good health, and able to re-enter a kayak in deep water. Our kayaks are pedal-powered, making them easier to use than traditional kayaks, and our guide is certified in lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR. If you’re unsure about your physical readiness, feel free to contact us to discuss whether our tours are right for you. Our pelagic fishing option is aimed at an experienced angler.
No prior fishing experience is needed for our bottom fishing offering, its our more casual option that works well for all angling skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned angler or trying fishing for the first time, your guide will always be there to provide guidance and assistance throughout the experience. Our focus is on creating a fun, hands-on learning opportunity in a supportive environment. Our Pelagic offering is geared towards an experienced angler who is confident adjusting drag on a spinning reel on the fly, baiting a hook with live bait, and hard fights with powerful fish.
Absolutely! We’re flexible and happy to tailor your adventure. Whether you want to explore different spots, target different fish, or take a snorkeling break, we can adapt the tour to suit your preferences. Just let us know what you’re looking for, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
For all our tours, we recommend bringing reef-safe sun protection, a reusable water bottle, waterproof footwear, and sunglasses. We provide life jackets, dry bags, equipment for your selected activity, snacks, and water. If you have your own fishing or snorkeling equipment you’d like to use you are welcome to bring it. We do not permit full face mask snorkels.
To ensure safety and enjoyment, guests must meet the following requirements: per seat weight limit of 240 lbs, must be a confident ocean swimmer, must be able to re-enter a kayak in deep water with no footing, must be in good health and at a decent fitness level, must understand and speak English, and each activity has different age restrictions, so check your desired experience for more info.
Safety is our top priority. If ocean conditions are unsafe or unsuitable for kayaking, we will work with you to reschedule your tour or, if necessary, issue a refund. We constantly monitor weather and ocean conditions and will communicate any changes with as much advance as possible.
